One Health Researchers Meet in Viçosa, Brazil, Oct. 1-3 2014

One Health researchers from the Paul G. Allen School for Global Animal Health at Washington State University, the School of Public Health at the University of Washington, and the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), Brazil met at the One Health Research and Training Coordination Workshop at UFV in Viçosa, Brazil from October 1-3, 2014. Twenty speakers from the US, Brazil and Australia  spoke on research findings and challenges facing One Health research today. Topics included vector borne diseases, disease modulation through gut microbiota, and food chain production. UFV is beginning a major initiative on One Health between the veterinary, medical, nursing, and agriculture schools on campus. The Center for One Health Research is proud to host the first education exchange under this program. PhD student Emilio Campos Acevedo Nieto, who is researching zonootic parasitic diseases in rural Brazil farming communities.
