job #12,134: Industrial Maintenance Electrician - Department of Natural Resources & Parks - Wastewater Treatment Division


This position performs a variety of highly skilled journey-level work by constructing, troubleshooting, maintaining and wiring a wide variety of equipment and conducting preventive maintenance programs. This position requires the use of analytical skills in implementing various aspects of process control. Work will be performed at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities. Field work will be at the West Point Treatment Plant and at offsite facilities. There is exposure to hazardous chemicals and noxious odors.


The ideal candidate should have:

  • Three years of demonstrated journey-level electrical experience in an industrial or manufacturing plant
  • Three years of demonstrated experience in reading, interpreting and applying national electrical codes, electrical theory and Instrument Society of America standards
  • Three years of demonstrated application of the principles of electrical distribution and generation and equipment including but not limited to transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, disconnect switches, voltage regulators, automatic transfer switches, synchronizing and power monitoring equipment
  • Three years of demonstrated experience with different functions of electrical equipment including but not limited to battery, control, automation, lighting, motor, heating and cooling
  • Three years of demonstrated skill in electrical troubleshooting and diagnosis procedures
  • Three years of demonstrated experience with electrical test equipment used for electrical troubleshooting, diagnosis, and preventive maintenance.
  • Three years of demonstrated experience with PLCs (programmable logic controllers) including but not limited to hardware, programming software and communication protocols
  • Three years of demonstrated experience with AC/DC motors and controls and variable frequency (speed) drives
  • Three years of demonstrated experience in applying safety practices for electrical (low, medium and high) voltages, mechanical and environmental hazards such as hazardous chemicals, gasses, and confined spaces
  • Three years of demonstrated experience working with industrial systems and processes
  • Three years of demonstrated experience with computer including hardware and software
  • Demonstrated experience in oral and written communication skills in reading, writing and applying oral and written instructions
  • Skill in working in a team environment and working independently on projects
  • Skill in the safe operation and use of basic hand and power tools, trade tools such as conduit benders and pipe threaders and electrical and electronic test equipment.
  • Skill in bending and installing conduit as per the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Skill in installing, pulling, soldering, splicing and terminating wire
  • Skill in working with variable frequency (speed) drives, installation, programming, maintenance and repair
  • Skill in creating or modifying new or existing technical publications and electrical drawings
  • Skill in applying industry codes and guidelines in the design, installation and maintenance of plant electrical equipment
  • Skill in performing basic mathematics functions including algebra and trigonometry
