What is the MESA Air Study?

The MESA Air Pollution Study is designed to examine the relation between air pollution exposures and the progression of cardiovascular disease over time, looking at people in six states, representing diverse areas of the country. "MESA" stands for the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis. The MESA Air study is funded by a grant from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The MESA Air Pollution study is housed at the University of Washington, but several other institutions are involved in the study.
