Visiting delegation from Azerbajan comes to COHR

On Friday August 7th, a scientific delegation of veterinary laboratory directors from Azerbajan visited the Center for One Health Research. We discussed the One Health concept and integrated surveillance for zoonotic and other diseases relevant to human and animal health and environmental health, including Brucellosis, avian influenza, and antibiotic resistance. Dr.s Rabinowitz and Fowler shared with them some of the cooperative efforts taking place in Washington State related to One Health, and discussed future collaborations. It was interesting to share experiences about disease tracking and prevention. They were particularly interested in the COHR training program for occupational health of animal workers. The group was in the US to explore veterinary systems and services for disease detection, diagnosis, and reporting. They mentioned that they are focusing on diseases of livestock and poultry, with possible zoonotic potential such as Brucellosis and Salmonellosis. They were visiting Seattle through the State Department's International Visitors Leadership Program, implemented by and facilitated through the World Affairs Council of Seattle.
