A warm welcome to Emily Patridge

The UW SRP welcomed Emily Patridge as our new administrator in October

On October 5th, the University of Washington Superfund Research Program (UW SRP) got a new Research Administrator- Emily Patridge. Patridge comes to us from the UW Health Sciences Library where she served as the Assistant Director of Clinical Research and Data Services for the last four years. In her new position, she splits her time between the UW SRP and the University of Washington Interdisciplinary Center for Exposures, Diseases, Genomics and Environment, which is also funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Patridge is not new to environmental and public health. The UW Health Sciences Library serves all six health science schools including the School of Public Health. As Patridge explains "I would assist researchers with research requests that focused on translational sciences and also public health research. I was also the project co-lead of the Network of the National Library of Medicine's Evaluation Office and worked with partners on public health projects needing evaluation."

Originally from Texas, Patridge received her Master's in Library Science with a focus on Health Informatics from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas in 2005. She has lived in the Seattle area since 2016.

While keeping busy with responsibilities to both of her new research Centers, Patridge also made time for an interview.

What excited you about working for UW SRP?

While research administration isn't considered a glamorous career, it fits in with what I have achieved in libraries - collaborating with researchers and scientists so they can focus on their research. I am enjoying learning about the Superfund projects and cores and how they interweave and provide a story of collaboration focused on improving health outcomes and a healthier environment.

How has it been to start a new job during the pandemic?

Onboarding is critical for any new employee to feel welcomed and part of the team. While Zoom is not the same as going for coffee or having in person introductions, everyone in Superfund has been very welcoming!

What do you do for fun or outside of work?

One of the reasons I moved to the PNW, and I think everyone can say this, is nature! I love that I didn't have to choose to live either near mountains or the beach and I can have both close by. My fun outside of work is taking a weekend trip with friends and my dogs and exploring the PNW.

What is one surprising thing about you?

I am a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thank you, Emily! We're delighted to have you join our team.
