Applying to the Major
Admission to this major is competitive, completion of prerequisites does not guarantee admission.
Applications are due by 5pm on the 3rd Friday of the quarter. Applicants will be notified of the admission decision usually within 2 weeks of the application deadline.
Submission of online application form which includes a personal statement. The personal statement should be approximately 500 words, should address the following questions:
- Why do you want to be an Environmental Health major?
- How will completing this degree help you to achieve your professional and academic goals?
Submission of unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended. Current UW students can obtain their unofficial transcript by saving the print friendly version from their myuw.washington.edu page. Applicants who are not current UW students should consult their University's Registrar if they don't know how to obtain an unofficial copy of their transcript. Transcripts should be sent to email@example.com, in pdf format, with the following file name format: LastName_QTRYearTranscript.pdf.
EXAMPLE: If Marge Simpson is applying in winter 2013, she would name her transcript: Simpson_WIN2013_Transcript.pdf. She would then email that transcript to firstname.lastname@example.org and she would put the following information in the subject line: Simpson_WIN2013_Transcript.
Transfer Student Information
Washington community college students should use an Academic Planning Worksheet and online equivalency guide to help plan for transfer. Please consult the transfer admission website for more information about applying to the UW and plan to attend the weekly Transfer Thursday program.
Students transferring from other colleges and universities should also use an Academic Planning Worksheet to plan for transfer. Since transfer equivalencies are not available until after enrolling at the UW, students should take courses that best match, in title and description, the requirements as offered from other regionally accredited institutions.
Transfer students may apply to the major at the same time they are applying to the UW. For example, a student planning to transfer in autumn 2013 would apply to the UW by February 15, 2013 and to the major by the third Friday of the spring 2013 quarter (April 19, 2013). If major prerequisites will not be complete by spring 2013, contact the department advisor for counseling.
