Hans Rosling Center for Population Health at the UW

The Hans Rosling Center for Population Health opened in 2020 and houses the department chair’s office, the offices of teaching faculty and administrative staff, the Office of Academic Services, the Pacific Northwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center and the Center for One Health Research. The building is located at 3980 15th Ave NE, Seattle, near the corner of 15th Avenue NE and NE Pacific Street. Gender-neutral restrooms are located throughout the building.

Roosevelt One building

The 4225 Roosevelt Way building houses laboratories, a continuing education training facility, Field Research and Consultation Group (FRCG), Center for Environmental Health Equity (CEHE), Environmental and Occupational Health Microbiology Lab (EOHML), UW Collaborative on Extreme Event Resilience (CEER), NW Center for Occupational Health and Safety (NWCOHS), Environmental Health and Microbiome Research Center (EHMBRACE), Center for Exposures, Diseases, Genomics, and Environment (EDGE), Pacific Northwest OSHA Education Center, Environmental Health Laboratory and Trace Organics Analysis Center (TOAC).  A gender-neutral restroom is available on the first floor. 

Directions to the Roosevelt building, from the north via I-5 southbound

Take the N.E. 45th/50th Street exit (#169). Stay to the left so you will exit I-5 at NE 45th Street. Make a left turn at NE 45th Street. You'll be traveling east toward the University of Washington. Turn right onto Roosevelt Way NE and continue three blocks south. Just past the light at N 42nd Street, turn right into the parking garage in the 4225 Roosevelt Way building.

Directions to the Roosevelt building, from the south via I-5 northbound

Take the NE 45th/50th Street exit (#169). Stay to the right as you exit until you reach NE 45th Street. Make a right turn at NE 45th Street. You'll be traveling east toward the University of Washington. Turn right onto Roosevelt Way NE and continue three blocks south. Just past the light at N 42nd Street, turn right into the parking garage in the 4225 Roosevelt Way building.

Directions to the Roosevelt building, from the east via State Route 520

Take the I-5 North exit from westbound 520 and stay in the right-hand lane. From I-5 North, take the NE 45th Street exit (#169). It will be the first exit you reach once you get on I-5. Stay to the right as you exit until you reach NE 45th Street. Make a right turn at NE 45th Street. You'll be traveling east toward the University of Washington. Turn right onto Roosevelt Way NE and continue three blocks south. Just past the light at N 42nd Street, turn right into the parking garage in the 4225 Roosevelt Way building.

Where to park

There is a convenient underground parking garage, which may be entered from Roosevelt Way NE, near the south end of the building. Hourly and all-day parking rates are available. Some metered parking is available on-street.

Bus service

Metro Transit routes 66 and 67 stop a block north of the Roosevelt building (southbound) and a block east (northbound). Other transit service operates on Campus Parkway, about two blocks south, and NE 45th Street, three blocks north. For routes, maps and timetables, visit the University's transit site.

Health Sciences Express operates between the Health Science complex, the Roosevelt building and Harborview Medical Center.

UW Health Sciences

The Magnuson Health Sciences Building F-wing currently houses the Environmental Health Laboratory and several lab spaces. All of the labs will move to the Roosevelt One building in 2021. The Health Sciences Building is adjacent to and west of the University of Washington Medical Center, on NE Pacific Street.

Health Sciences Express

Driving Directions from I-5 North or South:

Follow signs to route 520 East toward the Evergreen Point Bridge. Take the first exit to Montlake Blvd. (DO NOT go over the Evergreen Point Bridge). Turn left on Montlake Blvd. and continue north across the Montlake Bridge. Turn left onto NE Pacific Street.

If you are being dropped off, on NE Pacific Street, turn left at the second light and into a circular drivewayfor the University of Washington Medical Center Main Entrance. Do not enter the UW Medical Center. Instead, head west on the sidewalk. There will be a sign for the Health Sciences Center. Turn left and go through the courtyard to enter the building. Inside and to the right is a set of stairs leading up and past the Hogness Auditorium to the 4th floor. Or take the elevator up to the 4th floor. Head west toward the F-wing, and turn left. Follow the hallway until you see the sign on the wall for the department.

Parking

Continue west on NE Pacific Street to 15th Avenue NE. Take a left on 15th Avenue NE and follow the street as it bends around to the left. Look for Gatehouse (S6). The parking attendant will provide the closest available parking. Ask for a map and directions back to Health Sciences.

The South Campus Parking Garage (S1) is the closest parking lot to the Health Sciences Building. S1 has three levels. From the top level of the garage, cross the street toward the Health Sciences Building in front of the small gate building. There is a door underneath the stairway. Enter here to reach the first floor of the F-wing in the Health Sciences building. Inside the door, turn left and left again to walk west down the hallway until you come to a set of double doors. Enter and turn left to reach another door to the F-wing. There will be a set of elevators.

Northlake Way

Our Controlled Exposure and Optical Remote Sensing laboratories are located at 668 Northlake Way NE.

Our labs are in the shadow of the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge and next door to Northlake Pizza. Take the NE 45th Street exit from I-5, head south down 5th Avenue NE, which parallels the freeway on the west. Follow the jog at NE 42nd Street, and turn left at NE 49th to get onto 6th Avenue Northeast. Turn left at NE Northlake Way, and our labs are on the left, with a large awning identifying them with DEOHS.
