Dr. Fulco is an Assistant Professor at Tohoku University’s International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS). Dr. Fulco holds a PhD in Humanities/Cultural Anthropology from the University of Rome and completed post- doctoral training at Sophia University in Japan. Her ongoing research looks at the ways in which the personal memories of disaster are transmitted through storytelling and written collection of personal narratives. The University of Washington and Tohoku University have an Academic Open Space (AOS) agreement to foster inter-institutional collaboration.
Dr. Fulco has contributed substantially to the development of a study abroad program proposal on the Health Impacts of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The proposal was the result of the 2018 Pacific Rim Emergency Preparedness Research Symposium, co-sponsored by the AOS, Population Health Initiative and the Global Innovation Fund, and is a collaboration between UW SPH/DEOHS and the UW School of Nursing.
