Dr. Checkoway has held faculty positions in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina (1979-87), the University of Washington Departments of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (primary) and Epidemiology (joint) (1987-2013), and the University of California, San Diego, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (2013 – present). His main research and teaching interests have focused on occupational and environmental risk factors for non-infectious disease, especially cancers, Parkinson disease, and respiratory disorders. He is first author of the textbook, “Research Methods in Occupational Epidemiology” Oxford University Press, 1st ed. 1989, 2nd ed 2004. He served as Program Director of the University of Washington Superfund Research Program, funded by NIEHS (1998-2013).
