Daniela Morais Leme, PhD
About
Dr Leme works with Professor Faustman in DEOHS in her Current Topics in Risk Assessment courses, which includes aspects of chemistry and toxicology. Their work together focuses on sustainability and reduced animal use around the globe, trying to provide the basis for current discussions on global sustainability and global acceptance of non-animal testing. They are also working on actions around safer chemicals, including programs that are leading the way towards a more sustainable and tox-free environment which includes early identification of chemical hazards.

Research
I am studying the molecular and cellular mechanisms of chemicals that cause damages in the DNA (Genetic Toxicology), disruption in the immune system (Imunotoxicology) and developmental neurotoxicity using systems based approaches that integrate observations across various levels of biological complexity. I am also studying the effects of chemicals on the aquatic life (Ecotoxicology) aim to promote sustainable chemicals. For all my studies, I am using in vitro systems to evaluate the early biological responses upon chemical exposure.
