My name is Vannie and I had the opportunity to become an intern at the Public Health - Seattle & King County (PHSKC) in the Foods & Facilities Section. Food & Facilities is part of the Environmental Health Services, one of the many PHSKC programs, that provide and protect food and facilities safety. I spent the beginning half of my internship focusing on learning about local food safety regulations and codes. Besides learning about the responsibilities and relevant information of environmental health investigators within Foods & Facilities, I also conducted a cross-sectional survey project regarding public health workers’ work experience during the pandemic. Through this experience, I’ve learned more about my expectations and preferences for future career choices. It also increased my interest in working in public health/environmental health organizations that aim to improve living qualities and reduce public health inequities.
