MS (Thesis), Exposure Science (ES)

Manaola Hewett earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from the University of Washington and then completed a master's degree in Occupational and Environmental Exposure Sciences. As a UW student, Hewett completed multiple internships in both his undergraduate and graduate degrees, first as a Sustainability Natural Resource Project Fellow for Kamehameha Schools in Honolulu, and later as an Industrial Hygienist Intern with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.

Through his internships, Manaola assisted multiple industrial hygienists and safety professions in both compliance and consultation, and assisted in conducting safety inspections at workplaces throughout the Seattle region. This experience prepared him for his future career as an Environmental Health Safety Specialist for Mackin Consultancy Ltd, where he ensures worker safety for Facebook's AR/VR Research and Development Division.

Manaola says, "my degrees provided opportunities for me to get experience both in and out of the classroom. Also, the connections I made through networking are very rewarding. Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences is an emerging field and there are countless opportunities everywhere."
